TMB employment attorney V. John Ella will discuss employment agreements as part of a pre-recorded Minnesota CLE seminar entitled “Minnesota Business Forms” on January 13, 2021. The seminar is part of the roll-out of a new 2021 Minnesota CLE publication entitled “Minnesota Business Forms Deskbook.” The Deskbook provides sample business forms in electronic and hardcopy including forms for establishing a business, corporation, or LLC; Buy-Sell agreements; establishing a partnership; IT agreements, and selling or transferring a business, among other areas.
Mr. Ella authored Chapter 6 of the Deskbook which includes three sample forms: an executive employment agreement, an independent contractor agreement, and a non-compete agreement. Each Deskbook chapter also includes a list of relevant legal authorities, practice tips, and common pitfalls.
Mr. Ella’s seminar presentation addresses important drafting considerations such as the difference between termination of the contract and termination of the employment relationship; at-will employment; severance provisions; the concept of “Cause” and “Good Reasons”; change-in-control provisions; the survival clause; the new Minneapolis Freelance Workers Protection Ordinance; and restrictive covenants.
Mr. Ella is a Minnesota employment law attorney who often speaks and writes on the topics of drafting and litigating employment contracts, independent contractor agreements, and non-competes. He is the author of “Executive Employment Law – a Handbook for Minnesota Executives” (2018) and co-author of Chapter 4 – “Employment Agreements” in “Representing the On-Going Business” (2019) along with over 150 articles on legal topics.
