MSBA “One Profession” Event in Bemidji to Feature V. John Ella

The Minnesota State Bar Association’s “One Profession” program will be in the 9th Judicial District at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minnesota on March 22, 2019.  TMB shareholder V. John Ella will speak at a breakout session on “Top 10 Employment Law Mistakes.”

John’s session will discuss ten simple legal errors that Minnesota employers make over and over and how to help your client avoid them. From calculation of overtime to handbook disclaimers, including sexual harassment policies, vacation pay, drug testing employees, payment of commissions, and timing of non-competes, among other simple but sometimes counter-intuitive misunderstandings, this will be a practical overview for attorneys who represent both employers and employees.

V. John Ella has been practicing employment law for almost 25 years. His first job out of law school was serving as a law clerk for Judge William Kalar in Koochiching County in the 9th Judicial District. He is certified as an employment law specialist by the MSBA and currently services on the Governing Council for the Labor and Employment Law Section of the MSBA.

The One Profession program consists of one-day meetings in each of Minnesota’s judicial districts. The MSBA brings together all lawyers in a judicial district for one day to examine the challenges facing the legal profession. The goal is to include the judicial branch and all the lawyers in the district, including those in private practice, county and city attorneys, public defenders, corporate counsel, and unemployed lawyers.
