TMB employment and privacy law attorney V. John Ella recently recorded an episode of the Tech Tank podcast sponsored by the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. The topic of the podcast was “employee monitoring” and how employers can monitor employee use of computers, e-mails, and the internet, especially as so many Americans are working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Host Darrell M. West, a Senior Fellow for the Center for Technology Innovation at the Brookings Institution and author of “Turning Point: Policymaking in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” asked Mr. Ella about how employers monitor, why they monitor, what legal restrictions exist, and what employees can or should do to protect their privacy. They also discussed what, if anything, the Biden Administration might do to regulate this area.
The Tech Tank podcast is a biweekly podcast from Lawfare and The Brookings Institution exploring the most consequential technology issues of our time. You can listen or subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Acast. This episode should be available in mid-February.
