Jonas H.E. Persson is an Attorney at Trepanier MacGillis Battina P.A. He graduated with a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in May 2021 and, prior to joining the firm, worked for two and a half years with immigration law, appellate work, and civil litigation as an Associate Attorney at a boutique Minneapolis firm.

In law school, Jonas took classes in complex civil litigation, copyright and privacy law, and served as Student and Research Director for the Civil Rights/Civil Liberties Moot Court and as Student Director for the Federal Immigration Litigation Clinic, representing non-citizens before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and drafting petitions for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Originally from the south of Sweden, Jonas completed his undergraduate in comparative literature and languages at Lund University. He then moved to the U.K. for grad school, graduating with an M.A. in Victorian Literature from the University of York. Following his stint in England and research at Stockholm University, he moved to Wisconsin where he worked as a quality assurance specialist for an IT company, ensuring that its products complied with federal regulations. He also honed his writing skills as a reporter and researcher for a Madison-based non-profit. Some of the stories he broke were cited by nationwide outlets, including an editorial in The New York Times, and made their way to academic books and law review articles.

It was while assisting the non-profit’s general counsel with research and strategizing for public-interest lawsuits that he realized that he could leverage his academic training—close reading skills, creative interpretation of the source material, and persuasive writing—in the practice of law and civil litigation.

Drawing on both his experience before law school, including research and writing skills as well as compliance analysis, and his experience with civil litigation and appellate work after graduation, Jonas is excited to represent and zealously advocate for TMB’s clients in a wide array of matters, no matter how complex.

Jonas lives with his family in Minneapolis, and after six years in Minnesota, he has gone from grudgingly accepting the blistering summers and frigid winters to embracing the seasons thanks in no small part to his two-year-old daughter who simply loves the outdoors.
