Thevni T. Lelwala is a business and litigation attorney at Trepanier MacGillis & Battina P.A., where she represents individuals and businesses in a wide range of corporate, commercial, and civil matters. She joined the firm after earning her J.D. from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in May 2025.
During law school, Thevni built a diverse foundation in both transactional and litigation work. She served as a Law Clerk at a Minneapolis insurance-defense law firm, where she gained hands-on experience analyzing coverage issues and assisting with complex personal injury litigation matters. She also completed a corporate legal internship as a Law Scholar at Target Corporation, supporting in-house counsel on compliance, privacy, and commercial-contracts projects. In her final year, Thevni served as a Certified Student Attorney in the University of St. Thomas School of Law’s Juvenile & Criminal Defense Clinic, where she represented indigent and juvenile clients in court under attorney supervision. This experience strengthened her advocacy skills and deepened her commitment to ensuring fairness and access to justice.
As a Sri Lankan, born and raised in Shanghai, China, Thevni brings a multicultural perspective and global awareness to her work. From a young age, she and her family have been involved in charitable initiatives supporting children in Sri Lanka, focusing on expanding access to education, school supplies, and basic resources for underserved communities. These experiences inspired her academic path, leading her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business Law & Compliance and later attend law school. Her international background, coupled with her business-focused undergraduate and legal education, enriches her ability to connect with clients from diverse industries and backgrounds.
Outside of her practice, Thevni loves discovering new cuisines and restaurants, traveling to new destinations, and experiencing cultures from around the world. In her personal time, Thevni enjoys reading psychological thrillers, watching new movie releases in theaters, and spending time with her golden cavadoodle.
